The Fourth Industrial Revolution has accelerated the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies across industries. In the e-commerce sector, AI agents which are autonomous systems capable of complex reasoning and workflow execution—are transforming how businesses operate. Yet, for many South African startups, the high cost, technical complexity, and limited local expertise present significant barriers to effective adoption.

This research aims to investigate how e-commerce startups are navigating these challenges, the types of AI workflows they adopt, and how such adoption correlates with performance outcomes. Your insights will help generate quantitative evidence that can inform strategy, policy, and support frameworks for the South African digital economy.

Your participation is voluntary. All responses are anonymous and confidential, and the results will be presented only in aggregated form.
